Free Chess Events in Pittsburgh

Free Chess Events at Pittsburgh Libraries, Community Centers, and Schools

During a 'simul' (short for 'simultaneous exhibition'), an experienced chess player takes on many challengers all at once.

Boards are arranged in a straight line or loop, and I walk around the room, making one move at a time on each board.

My largest simul was held in 2017 at Northland Library, and I played against 30 challengers all at once.

WHY I LOVE SIMULS:

  • Participants get a unique chance to play a Chess Master

  • Both instructive and fun

  • Brings excitement and spectacle to a normally quiet game

  • Entertaining event for spectators

Does a simul sound fun to you?

I offer simuls for free

Libraries, community centers, and schools are ideal venues.

A simul (short for 'simultaneous exhibition) is a free chess event offered by Gabriel Petesch to libraries, schools, and community centers in Pittsburgh.

In this simul at Northland Library in 2017, I played 30 challengers (not all games are shown in this picture).
