Summer USCF-Rated Chess Camps

For tournament-level chess players (500-1200 USCF) looking to improve their chess skills!

EACH DAY WILL BE FULL OF A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING:

  • 1 Daily USCF-rated tournament game

  • Post-game analysis

  • Puzzle-solving competitions

  • Instructive lectures

  • Small Group chess study sessions

TWO OPTIONS:

  • July 20-24, St. Brendan’s Episcopal Church (Franklin Park)

  • August 10-14, Pittsburgh New Church School (Point Breeze)

***Please note, we will only accept a maximum of 18 students into each camp!*** It may be necessary to register well in advance to secure a spot.


Daily Schedule (Example)

9:00-9:30 Camp arrival (please note that camp counselors will not arrive until 9:00 AM)

9:30-9:45: Quick Warmup: tactics or endgame puzzle

9:45-10:45 USCF rated Tournament games

10:45-11:15 Game Analysis (+morning snack**):  

11:15-11:45-  Lecture: Grandmaster game of the day

11:45-12:30- Small group study session (endgames, openings, chess puzzles)

12:30-12:45 Parent pick up

**For the morning snack, we will provide options such as popcorn/crackers, etc. Please pack something if your child would prefer something else.


Chess boards, pieces, clocks and scoresheets are provided. Your child can bring a scorebook to record their games if they have one.

***All players must have a current US Chess Federation (USCF) membership to compete in the daily officially rated games. CLICK HERE to obtain (or renew) a membership.***
